And so it begins. The quality time in the gym with the Stairmill and weights, the weekend training climbs, the visa application, the search for quality gear at a good price, the vaccinations … Oh the vaccinations! Last month I rolled up my sleeves for a whole slew of them, including yellow fever, making me a virtual pin-cushion. I decided to take a pass on the rabies shot.
And yes, it is all worth it. To have the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro, the fourth highest of the Seven Summits of the world, for breast cancer research is a once in a lifetime – not to mention life-changing — event! A climb of the 19,341’ Kili takes you through 5 ecosystems overlooking the Serengeti. Kili also holds the title as the world’s largest free-standing mountain. Truly an amazing mountain that I can’t wait to climb!!
Climb to Fight Breast Cancer has continued to motivate me since I climbed Mt Rainier for this cause in July 2007. It’s hard to believe that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime – that’s just way too high! Since my first climb, I’ve continued to stay involved with CFBC as a volunteer committee member and this year I’m determined to climb again despite still struggling with horrible plantar fasciitis. We need to find a cure for breast cancer — so I’m going to keep climbing!

Thanks to my stellar climbing buddy, we’ll be building out this site she’s set up so you can follow all of our (mis-) adventures along the way!
